LARGE SCALE RENOVATIONS

EAST BROOK HOME, CUMBERLAND

This full renovation reconfigured the first-floor layout of this home from 6 separate rooms to an open-concept layout by moving the stairs from the center of the house to an outside wall. Moving the stairs enabled these clients to substantially increase the size of their kitchen space, turning it into the central focus of the downstairs floor plan. In addition to the new kitchen and bar, and without adding to the square footage of the home, this project also added a full master bathroom, second floor laundry room, interior wood storage area, mud room and custom accent wall from salvaged barn boards. With new electrical and plumbing systems, all new energy efficient windows and exterior doors, and new insulation throughout, this 1980’s era house has the feel of a brand-new home.

The Intervale, New Gloucester

This full restoration of an original 1850's farmhouse preserved and exposed the original timber frame structure while creating an open concept layout and vastly improving the energy efficiency and insulation of the home.  The renovation featured all new energy efficient windows, custom kitchen with cherry cabinetry and soapstone counter tops, custom tile shower and bathroom, centrally located wood stove, a new wrap-around farmer's porch and deck, cellulose insulation, and new plumbing and electrical throughout. What started as a drafty and dark, though structurally sound, farmhouse ended as a well-insulated, open-concept, naturally lit, beautiful home.

Blueberry Hill Home, Cumberland

This renovation and addition project substantially increased the total square footage by adding a garage and master bedroom suite to the existing home, which was also fully remodeled. Originally 1,652 square feet with 1.5 bathrooms, this project expanded the home to 3,469 square feet and added a master bedroom suite, office, mudroom, laundry room and a large free-span 2 car garage with shop. The full interior and exterior remodel included a full kitchen expansion and renovation, all new energy efficient windows, new flooring throughout, landscaping, and new decks. Low-flow appliances, LED fixtures, and a super insulated shell helps ensure that this home is energy efficient into the future.

Hodsdon Fields, Pownal

This full renovation took the original ranch house and turned it into a modern and accessible energy smart home.  Using the original split-level design as inspiration, the home now has four different levels of living with custom features such as a timber frame bridge to an upstairs loft. The home’s orientation to the south allowed the designer, Maine Build Studio, to create a passive solar design that used natural day lighting to maximize energy efficiency. Additional energy smart features include PV solar electric array, solar thermal array, radiant floor heat, a super-insulated shell, advanced framing strategies, and a heat recovery ventilator system.

South Freeport Congregational Church, South Freeport

As this church neared its' 160th birthday, the congregation decided to undertake an extensive exterior renovation project to the building. This project included all new siding, lead remediation from old paint, all new porches and entrances, stained glass re-glazing, and a new roof. One of the primary intentions of the project was to remove all lead paint and to use long-lasting materials that would last for many more hundreds of years.
